South of São Paulo State
There are many good places to bird in the south of São Paulo state, the main area of the Atlantic Rain Forest in Brazil, called “Maciço de Paranapiacaba”, we have access to private reserves or state parks, in elevation ranging from sea level to 1000 m. There are more than 400 species of birds, more than 80 endemic and is not necessary to drive a lot, all places are within less than 4 hours driving (if we don’t stop to see some new bird along the way!). Arriving in the GRU International Airport, we can get to the bird areas in a short time, making use of the excellent roads in this area.
North of São Paulo state and south of Rio de Janeiro state
Another excellent area of Atlantic Rain Forest, two famous hills “Serra do Mar” and “Serra da Mantiqueira” with elevation ranging from sea level to 2500 m, we can find very nice birds in specific habitats, such as birds that are only found in areas higher than 2000 m, as well species in coastal areas.
